Jane Duncan centenary celebrations

Hello. I'm Fiona Thompson and I am pleased to join this community of people who value the work of Jane Duncan. I am posting with details of the celebrations currently planned to take place this year.

First, there is the launch of a new edition of "My Friends the Miss Boyds". Published, with a beautiful new cover, by Millrace Books (http://www.millracebooks.co.uk/jane_duncan.html), this centenary edition will be launched at a special event at Waterstone's, Inverness, on the 24th June 2010 at 6.00. Jane Duncan's family (the 'Hungry Generation') will be present. If you want to attend and all are welcome- best to let Waterstone's know on 01463 233500.

This is just the start of a number of events. Cromarty Courthouse is hosting an exhibition and further details can be found at http://www.cromarty-courthouse.org.uk/Jane-Duncan-g.asp

On the 26th June there is an opportunity to meet and have 'Tea with Friends' at the Old Brewery in Cromarty between 2.30 and 4.30. Again Jane Duncan's family will be there - Shona, Neil, Donald and Iain plus their families. It's an opportunity to share memories, thoughts, photos and I'll be there as well to chat about Jane Duncan's archive of diaries, correspondence and manuscripts.

The family also hope to organise a rare screening of "The Camerons", a film based on one of her books for children.

Later in the year the works of Jane Duncan will feature as part of the annual Black Isle Words Festival. Running over the weekend of the 10-12 September the festival has a focus this year on 'place'. Again more information can be found at http://www.blackislewords.co.uk/

I'll add anything else as I hear of it! Please pass the word on to anyone else you know who is interested - this is going to be a great year for Jane Duncan and her Friends!
